America! America!

In fifth grade we study the development of the United States from the very first people and settlements on the Atlantic coast to the recovery of the United States after the fight of the Civil War. As with science, at semester Mr. Pankratz and I will be changing classes that we lead. Mr. Pankratz will lead social studies classes from the first people and settlement of North America to the colonies. At semester I will take over teaching from the American Revolution, development of government, exploration and settlements West and finally, the Civil War. Throughout this journey, students will use a variety of resources including their textbooks, newspapers, graphic novels, Internet sites, and have the chance to participate in the Oregon Trail simulation and writing project.
