Welcome to Grade 10 Biology

Biology is the study of life. Biologists study the structure, function, growth, origin, evolution and distribution of living organisms.

Five basic understandings about living things unify the study of biology: The cell is the basic unit of life, all living things are made of cells, and cells arise from pre-existing cells; all living things require energy, and energy flows between organisms and between organisms and their environment; all living things have DNA and genetic information codes the structure and function of all cells and this genetic code is passed from parent to offspring through heredity; all living things must maintain a state of equilibrium between themselves and their environment; and, biological diversity exists because organisms change over time. It is these five fundamental ideas that I hope to help my students understand throughout the course of this academic year.
