My classroom consists of different areas for student needs. It is a calming atmosphere with blue light shields to protect those in my classroom who are affected by florescent lighting. There are individualized student seating areas as well as areas for group work. A classroom library with a wide range of book levels borders the room. When you enter my classroom, you will notice our vocational work area enclosed and set up with a kitchen or work office feel. Some students are also sent out with various jobs or tasks, some working positions within the school building to prepare for post-secondary life.
Weighted blankets, brushes, and sensory tools are available to my students who have sensory diets built into their schedules. These sensory tools are selected specifically for touch, visual, and auditory sensory needs. An occupational and physical therapy room is just down the hall from our classroom as well.
